HLTAID014 Advanced First Aid

HLTAID014 builds on HLTAID011 and is suited to first aid officers, those in supervisory or leadership roles, and workers in environments where complex or multi-casualty incidents may occur. The course develops your ability to manage realistic emergency scenarios with confidence and clinical reasoning.

Core content includes:

• Advanced patient assessment and primary and secondary survey
• Oxygen therapy and airway adjuncts
• Complex wound management including haemorrhage control
• Multi-casualty triage and incident management
• Spinal immobilisation and patient packaging
• Advanced anaphylaxis management and auto-injector administration
• Chest injuries and tension pneumothorax recognition
• Burns assessment using the rule of nines
• Diabetic and metabolic emergencies in depth
• Stroke and neurological emergencies
• Obstetric emergencies at an introductory level
• Psychological first aid in emergency situations
• Leadership and communication in first aid scenarios
• Documentation and reporting for workplace incidents
• Handover protocols to paramedics and hospital staff
• Realistic group scenario assessment

HLTAID014 is delivered over 6 to 7 hours using a realistic group scenario format. This approach ensures participants can apply knowledge to authentic emergency situations they are likely to encounter in their roles.

The scenario-based assessment means participants with prior HLTAID011 training can be incorporated as realistic assistants, making each scenario more authentic and teaching leadership and delegation skills. Duration may vary slightly based on group size and composition, but all participants complete the same assessment requirements.
